There’s a great story from the Brothers Grimm with some deep wisdom about the need to consciously commune with the Devil. It’s called the Three Apprentices. Particularly important are the three slogans that appear in the story: one is “For the three of us!”; another is “For the Money!”; and the third is “And quite right too!”. The three spheres of life, the cultural, the economic and the political, are hidden in modern times; all three are subsumed under the economic sphere.

Let’s lay out some principles here for this first article. That is, I would like to outline some things we do not usually consider when looking at the world. The first is the spectacle, the show of what we usually consume in the presentation of geopolitics and the pictures the media gives to us about the course of history. Can we learn something from this picture? There is a great danger in our time that instead of coming to a spiritual orientation to our times, we would instead sleep through it, as if all the images are a dream, as if our very impulses in life we would not really take up and as if we would not live, and we would struggle to find the will to truly live in these times. So one of the first things we have to do is to separate the human being from the fallen dominance of the economic sphere of life, and to look at life again as three spheres: a political sphere, a cultural sphere, and an economic one. But then we have to compare the 1920s to our own time, the 2020s, and learn to see our time as if with new eyes. When you do this you will come then to first the imagination of the spectacle of life, the growth of media; the rise of mass movements, the use of radio, then television, then the internet social media, all in a sense to control, on the one hand, which is to mobilize in life, but also so too on the other, to pacify, to demobilize, to in a sense demotivate the human being in their own consciousness. In a sense, consider every time: instead of the effort required to fully grasp something, you “grab” for convenience, to consume rather than digest a topic, to only see the surface of a subject. When you hold this imagination, you will see that it affects your whole consciousness. Naive realism means this: you have stopped short of thinking about what you see, and you have fallen into simply believing what you are told about life.

The topics we will cover in this newsletter are the effects of your money on your whole life, body, life path, and consciousness. We usually shy away from this subject, really, because it raises some of the most intimate spiritual questions and the will (karma) of the human being.
